CBB was one of the best blues oriented rock bands of their day, and this album had some of their most memorable tracks. They weren't concerned about doing semi-faithful covers of old delta blues songs as was the case with many UK bands of the late '60's, but rather did original rock music with the blues genre only as inspiration/5(14).

This vinyl long play, Tightly Knit, is very good British blues rock with a terrific lead guitar player, Pete Haycock, and a cool smooth sax player, Colin Cooper. There is a bit more rock and roll on this album and it appears that's the direction they are going to go. I've always enjoyed this band.

Shortening their name to the Climax Blues Band, the group recorded and released their excellent follow-up album, Plays On, later that year. By the band had moved to EMI's progressive label, Harvest, and issued their third album A Lot of Bottle later that year. The album Tightly Knit was arguably their best of this period.
