Claddagh is proud to release, for the first time on CD, our great recording of Jack MacGowran reading from the works of Samuel Beckett. MacGowran in his time was the foremost interpreter of Beckett?s work, and the recording sessions were personally sup.

Samuel Beckett was one of the most original and influential writers and dramatists of the twentieth century and a writer with an exceptional concern for the subtleties of sound and rhythm. Released in the centenary year of his birth, this four-CD set spans the period , collecting the five works created by Beckett for the broadcast medium.

Macgowran is still unsurpassed as a reader of Beckett's prose and it is good to find this recording still on the market. A support band drawn from the Beckett family with the master himself on gong means this as about as close as we're ever going to get - apart from those fleeting video clips where he talks about one of the late shorts, on YouTube - to audible proof of his existence/5(3).

Apr 05,  · Beckett had heard MacGowran’s voice in a BBC radio play by M.J. Molloy and asked for him, but did not oversee the production of All That Fall. They did not meet until Beckett came to London in to work on the world première of Endgame, or Fin de Partie, as it was still in French. The two men finally arranged to see each other in the bar.
