    Chicago's Smoking Popes have Amy Heckerling's "Clueless" to thank for their "Need You Around" becoming somewhat of a familiar hit. While many were quick to compare singer Josh Caterer to Morrissey because of their shared penchant for emotionally overwrought singing, the band more closely resembles a union of Cheap Trick's Power Pop and the lyrical self-awareness of the Offspring's .

    Digital album download card included. Born to Quit is the second album by the Chicago-based pop punk band the Smoking Popes. The album was originally released in via Capitol Records. This remastered edition comes in a gatefold jacket and includes liner notes from Matt Skiba, Joe Shanahan, and Kyle Kinane along with a track-by-track analysis from Josh Caterer.

    Recorded and submitted to Capitol Records in , this finale from the Smoking Popes wasn't released until on Double Zero Records. At the time of its recording, the band was in disarray, primarily due to frontman Josh Caterer's exhaustion and newfound Christian devotion. Looking for a way out of their Capitol contract, they offered this collection of ten cover tunes.

    The Popes sounded like a loud, guitar-based band fronted by a lounge singer, mixing uptempo rock with laid-back vocals and lyrics with an old-time romantic feel. The rest of the band, which formed in the Chicago area around , consisted of Josh's brothers Matt and Eli on bass and guitar, respectively, and drummer Mike Felum.
